We all have dips.
But, how do we respond when they happen?
Over the last 18 months, I’ve shared quite a bit about my career journey, giving up alcohol, and the positive impact exercise has had on my life.
Sometimes there can be an assumption that once you’ve gone alcohol-free, everything falls into place. That motivation is always there. That exercise becomes effortless.
The reality is a little different.
This year, running has been a struggle.
My mojo disappeared for a while. Training became inconsistent. Excuses crept in. Work got busy. Life got busy.
Recently, I completed a 10k and felt heavy, lethargic, and disappointed with my time.
But if I’m honest, it wasn’t a surprise.
Results rarely lie. My preparation simply hadn’t been where it needed to be.
So I’ve set myself a challenge:
🏃 Run every day throughout June.
Why?
Because sometimes you need to do something that creates a response rather than a reaction.
For me, this challenge is about:
✅ Discipline – setting a goal and following through.
✅ Re-establishing the habit – being busy is often just an excuse.
✅ Consistency – small actions repeated daily create momentum.
✅ Accountability – keeping a promise to myself.
And because I know I’m better when I’m running regularly.
The benefits go far beyond fitness:
• More energy
• Better focus and decision-making
• Reduced stress
• Improved sleep
• Greater resilience
• Better mood
• Clearer thinking
• A stronger sense of achievement
The lesson applies far beyond running.
Whether it’s leadership, career progression, health, or personal development, we all drift from time to time.
The key is recognising it and taking action before the drift becomes the destination.
Day 2 is done.
28 to go.
What’s one habit you’ve let slip that you’re committed to rebuilding?
