I Got My Weekends Back

For years, my weekends disappeared without me really noticing.

I thought I was resting.

In reality, I wasn’t recovering from the thing that was exhausting me.

Alcohol didn’t recharge me.
It delayed me.

Everything changed when I removed the routine.

This weekend was a perfect example.

I got up early both days.

No fog.
No sluggish starts.
No negotiating with myself.

I exercised.
Got jobs done.
Spent proper time with family.
Cleared my head.
Prepared for the week ahead.

Nothing extraordinary.

But that’s the point.

These things used to feel difficult because my energy was constantly being drained.

The old version of me spent weekends escaping.

The new version builds from them.

And the biggest difference isn’t my productivity with has significantly increased.

It’s the new found peace which I have found and fully embrace.

Sunday evenings used to feel heavy.

Now they feel calm.

I no longer spend the weekend switching off from life and then panicking about Monday arriving.

I use the weekend to actually live.

That doesn’t mean every weekend is perfect.

But I’m present for it now.

And Monday mornings no longer feel like survival mode.

If you’re stuck in the cycle I described in Friday’s newsletter, I understand it completely because I lived it for years.

But I can honestly say this:

Removing alcohol gave me more than better health.

It gave me my time, energy, and weekends back.
