Half Marathon Test
This newsletter is actually covering the last 2 weeks which have been quite difficult to manage.
The strains of marathon training have been taking there toll with calf and Achillies both playing up, but also, and as I always emphasis to people, work will also get in the way, and this week has been a tough one mentally, which impacted my half marathon effort today, which is so frustrating, but something we all need to be aware of.
I have been lucky, as I have a network of coaching colleagues who have helped me work a few things out, and I am very grateful for their support.
Coaching really does help! Today I could have just not bothered, which would have been the case previously.
Rocking up when the weather wasn’t great and persevering with the run was the success, not necessarily the time.

So as this week has been a bit of tough one, so let’s look at the improved focus and productivity we get at work on the back of running.
1. Boosts Brain Function
Running increases blood flow to the brain, delivering more oxygen and nutrients. This sharpens mental clarity, enhances memory, and improves problem-solving abilities, all critical for staying focused during demanding tasks.
2. Reduces Stress and Anxiety
Physical activity like running reduces cortisol (stress hormone) and increases endorphins (feel-good chemicals). This shift improves mood and reduces the mental clutter that often leads to distraction.
3. Enhances Mental Resilience
Running trains your mind to push through discomfort and stay disciplined, traits that directly transfer to work, especially during high-pressure or tedious projects.
4. Improves Sleep Quality
Regular runners tend to sleep better, and quality sleep is directly linked to better concentration, decision-making, and productivity at work.
5. Creates a Structured Routine
Running helps establish a morning or midday routine, giving your day structure. This can set a productive tone and improve time management throughout your work hours.
6. Provides Time for Creative Thinking
Many people find their best ideas come while running. It’s often a distraction-free zone where your subconscious can process challenges and generate insights.
Of course, next week is still in the future and is for us to define how successful we want it to be.
Onto week 8.
