Have you ever heard of this term?
Today is the 1st day after a bank holiday weekend and I’m sure there are many who will have over indulged during the last 3 days, and today, you are probably not feeling the best.
It is only a short week, and soon you will be able to ‘go again’ starting Friday night.
So where is the fun in this cycle?
So what is a Middle lane Drinker?
Its not someone who has a serious dependency where they are getting up in the morning and needing a drink to kick the day off.
Middle Lane Drinking is where most drinkers live.
- You don’t drink every day, but if someone offers, you wont say no.
- You’re not out of control, but alcohol is too in control.
- You’re not addicted, but in your life, you’re not thriving.
- You tell people all is good, its under control, but deep down you wonder if it actually is.
This is what middle lane drinking is, and I ticked these boxes. I was a Middle Lane Professional.
When the penny finally dropped, this is what I finding:
- It gradually drains your energy
- Your thinking is impacted
- Confidence and consistency takes a hit.
- You’re always tired
- Your general appearance, self-esteem is all impacted
There are so many downsides to being in the middle lane, but you can become blind to it, the fact that its socially acceptable doesn’t help. It never looks bad enough, until it’s too late.
The highs never get as high, and lows get deeper and more drawn out.
The diagram below shows how your mental health is impacted through having an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, which profile would you prefer to follow?

You’re trying hard to maintain your standards, but until you address the root cause, you can never progress. Of course, addressing the root cause is never easy, if it was easy, you wouldn’t have the problem in the first place.

What could be the root cause?
How do we test the root cause to prove it?
There are processes which I can apply which will help you come up with your own conclusions on what you need to do. It is important that you own the actions and that I don’t tell you what to do. Let’s face it, do any of us do as we are told?
Once you shift out of the middle lane, you realise just how much life was passing you by.
